Callao Salvaje – village gateway to Tenerife
Welcome to Callao Salvaje
Although it started out as a small Canarian village, Callao Salvaje has grown gracefully as its popularity with British visitors has increased. Tear yourself away from your balcony sea view across to the island of La Gomera, and you can start to explore the wide selection of bars, restaurants and shops in the village. The British influence is strong, and you will soon make new friends over familiar food and other home comforts, you can even keep up with your favourite soaps and the football. There are also several restaurants offering Canarian cuisine, well worth trying.
Sea view and a sunny outlook
This area of the west coast is a natural sun trap and you may like to meander down the cliff terrace gardens next to Perla Gris or walk to the small unspoilt pebble beach. The Perla Gris self catering holiday apartments are ideally placed on a cliff top, just 20 minutes from the south airport and 10 minutes from the night life centre of Playa de las Americas, Callao Salvaje is a friendly community with a sedate pace of life.
Exploring Tenerife
At the Perla Gris reception, you can find all the best Excursions for you, or you may like to explore independently. The main road twists up and out of Callao Salvaje to join the TF-1 motorway, which links to all points on the island. Turn left and you are just 30 minutes drive from Los Gigantes on the upper west coast, though Playa San Juan and Alcala both have quiet charms to distract you on the way. Turn right and the theme parks, nightclubs and noisier resorts of Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos await you. If you stay on the motorway, you can be up north and in the capital, Santa Cruz within the hour.
Sport and exercise on your doorstep
The sun and warm air are perfect for golf and you are sandwiched between 2 of the best courses. Five minutes to the west is Abama Golf, a luxurious new leisure resort and an equal distance to the south is Golf Costa Adeje, another treat for the eyes and a test for your skills.
If you want to get close to nature there are many great nearby walks, from coastal strolls to the 4 hour ravine hike of Barranco del Infierno.
